$240 Dollars a Square Foot?

==========
A link about some over-priced modular home (shipped down from Canada no less) talked about folks in San Fran paying $240 dollars a square foot for a house. I don't care how much money somebody has, that's just obscene. Unfortunately, our tax system rewards these high buckers who spend their money on housing. In the early years, virtually all of one's payment goes to interest and mortgage interest is tax-deductible. So if you're in a 50% tax bracket, essentially Uncle Sam is making HALF your house payment! This complicity makes our government responsible -- in large part -- for the ever-increasing cost of housing driven by speculation and greed with no end in sight.
==========
As your income decreases, Uncle Sam pays a smaller and smaller
percentage of your house payment until your income is low enough that you pay zero tax in which case Uncle Sam doesn't make ANY of your house payment either. The rich get richer, while the poorest 20% of Americans average $5,226 dollars a year . . . shameful . . . in this so-called land of plenty where those inclined to build their own small and simple home must constantly fight tooth and nail with the powers that be to do so.
==========
How can I begin to understand these rich people who sleepwalk through this life; look at REAL human needs all around them and can't find anything better to spend their money on than some castle to glorify themselves and impress their other rich friends? It doesn't make me want to be like them. It fills my heart with contempt for them! It makes me pray for an earthquake to level the lot of 'em -- again. I hope they choke on their stupid fish eggs!
